Book Fair is Coming to Canadian Martyrs!

Dear Crusaders!
This Friday, December 1, 2017 your children will have an opportunity to preview the Scholastic Book Fair that will be at our school for a week.  On Friday, your child(ren) will have the opportunity to go to the library, see the book fair items that are available for sale this year and write down something on a “wish list”.  Then, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week (December 4,5,6) your child(ren) will have the opportunity to purchase any of these items.  Please look for the “wish list” sheet coming home this weekend and help to support our book fair.  Any proceeds will go directly back into our school library to purchase resources for your children.

Thank you in advance for your support.

It is with mixed emotions that we are saying Goodbye to Mrs. Harnack and Welcome Back to Mrs. Hughes.

Mrs. Harnack as been a member of our staff for a long time now and she was an excellent addition to our Early Years and Primary division.  We are so appreciative of her time and attention to your children.  We will truly miss her.  Her last day will be this Friday, December 1.

Advent is Upon Us!

Dear Crusaders,

This coming Sunday marks the first Sunday of Advent for 2017.  Advent is a time when we are preparing our souls for the coming of Jesus at Christmas.  We will be challenging all of our students to actively prepare themselves for Jesus.  This may mean attending confession, being extra nice to friends and classmates at school, praying daily including Christian Meditations, or making more of an effort to help those in need this holiday season – we can all do something to prepare ourselves for Jesus.

At Canadian Martyrs, we focus on “Our 3 R’s: Resiliency, Respect and Responsibility”.  Advent is a great time to focus on being respectful and responsible!  This will help us all to welcome Jesus at Christmas and ensure that the holiday season is not just about presents, but people.

Have a blessed Advent Season from all of us here at Canadian Martyrs!

Bus Safety Information from Canadian Martyrs!

Dear Crusaders,

Tomorrow we will have our annual bus evacuation drill.  The bus company will be here to talk to your children about bus safety and evacuation.  We will get a chance to practice a “front door evacuation” so that all students will know what to do in case they ever have an emergency while on a field trip or while riding the bus.

Please take some time to speak to your children – whether they are regular bus students or not – about bus safety and good behaviour while riding a school bus.  Yesterday, we broke it down to 4 easy steps: 1. Get on the bus; 2. Sit down; 3. Demonstrate the 3 R’s; 4. Get off the bus.  It is so important that students are sitting, facing the front, talking to their friends quietly and appropriately, and demonstrating Resiliency, Respect and Responsibility at all times when riding the bus.  I know that with some attention to this each year, we will be able to have a happy and safe bus ride – no matter where we are going!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the office.

Thanks!

Canadian Martyrs Angel Tree is up in the Foyer!

Dear Crusaders!

Each Advent, our school community participates in an Angel Tree Campaign.  This year we will continue the tradition!

You will receive shortly, if you have not already, a letter that explains our Angel Tree Campaign.  If you would like to participate, please return the bottom portion of the sheet that will come home with a new, unwrapped gift.  These gifts could include toys, books, children’s clothing, and even gift cards!  When you return the sheet with the gift, we will write their name on a star and decorate the tree for the rest of the season.

We are always amazed at how successful these events are from year to year, and we are looking forward to another significant donation to the St. Vincent de Paul Society on Wednesday, December 13th, 2017.  Please give generously Crusaders!
