Scholastic Book Fair is back at Canadian Martyrs!

Hey Crusaders!  Did you know that we are having a Scholastic Book Fair?

December 3rd – December 5th

A Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to show our children that we value books and reading.  It’s also a great fundraiser for the library, as up to 50% of each sale is used by the library to purchase new library books!  The Book Fair is open for student purchases during the school day on Monday December 3rd, Tuesday December 4th, and Wednesday December 5th (only until noon).  The Book Fair is open for Parent/Family purchases on Monday Dec 3rd and Tuesday Dec 4th before school, starting at 8:45 am, and after school from 3:40 to 4:15.  Parents who visit the Book Fair on Dec 3rd or 4th can deposit a draw ballot for each child they have at the school;  one lucky family will win $25 in books for their family as well as $25 in books for their child’s classroom.  Thanks for your support, and we hope to see you at our Book Fair!

Important News and Upcoming Events at Canadian Martyrs!

Hello Crusaders!

Last week, we had the opportunity to pray with and reflect upon the “Pilgrimage Cross” at Canadian Martyrs!  Each class had the opportunity to spend some quiet time with the cross, meditating and listening to the voice of God.  On Wednesday, our Grade 7’s braved the elements and walked the cross to Shantz Park where they met the Grade 7 students from St. Anne’s Catholic school in Kitchener.  Thanks to all of the staff and students for making the most of this opportunity!

This symbolic cross is almost done it’s journey and you will be able to see it at St. Anthony Daniel Parish is about 2 weeks!  Stay tuned!

Popcorn is back at Canadian Martyrs!

For just $2.00 you can purchase a bag of popcorn on either Tuesday’s or Thursdays.  Please take a close look at School Cash Online for purchasing information.

The Annual Turkey Lunch is back!

Once again, we will be gathering together as a school community to celebrate the holiday at our annual Turkey Lunch.  The information will be available through schoolcash online soon (December 5) and we will host our lunch on Wednesday, December 19th!  Remember the most important part of the lunch is that all of our Crusaders are in the gym!  Even if you bring your lunch that day instead of order the Turkey Lunch, we still want you to participate – this day is about TOGETHERNESS!

Primary Christmas Concert

Our youngest students have been working hard to prepare a short Christmas show for you!  We will hold our Primary Christmas Concert on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 10:45am in the gym.  The rest of the school will have had a chance to see this show already, so they can remain in their classes on Friday.  Please join us at 10:45 for the show!  It should last approximately 45 minutes – 1 hour.

Our Angel Tree is up in the office!

Each year, Canadian Martyrs collects new toys, books, hats, mitts, and gift cards to give to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to share with those in need over the holidays.  If your family would like to donate a new, unwrapped gift please bring it in and we will give you an Angel to add to the tree.  We look forward to seeing our tree change over the next couple of weeks!

The staff of Canadian Martyrs would like to wish all of you a blessed Advent Season.  We hope that you are able to take some time to prepare your hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas!  He is the best present!  Take some time to be with family, friends and your Catholic Community at Church on Sunday’s – this coming Sunday is the first Sunday in Advent!

Today is the Day Crusaders!

Dear Crusaders,

Today is the day that we say “Goodbye” to our Pilgrimage Cross.  We are so thankful of the time we had to spend with the cross, and although it was short, it was meaningful!  There were so many great conversations and questions about the cross; where it has been; where it is going; and of course about our FAITH!

We are so thankful for the opportunity for our Grade 7’s to show their GRIT today since they will be walking it in such cold weather!  Dress warmly Grade 7’s!  Don’t forget your toque!

We would welcome any community members to Canadian Martyrs to be a part of the celebration.  We would ask that you join our lines of students as the cross makes its way out of the building and down the street.  As it passes, be reminded of our message to your children – take time to slow down, breathe and hear the voice of God in your heart.  He always walks with us!

Have a great Wednesday Crusaders!

The Pilgrimage Cross is at Canadian Martyrs!

Dear Crusaders,

We are so excited to have the Pilgrimage Cross at Canadian Martyrs!  This is a 7 foot cross that has been travelling throughout the Waterloo Catholic Schools for a year!  It is finally our turn!

On Friday, November 16, 2018 the staff welcomed the cross to our school by carrying it through the hallways into the library.  There it stands, and we were already able to spend some time with the cross in quiet meditation.  What an experience!  On Monday and Tuesday, each student will have their time with the cross as a class and have the opportunity to think about what it means to have it here and what it can mean for us when it moves on.

On Wednesday at 11:00am, our Grade 7’s, who are on their own journey this year, will walk the cross to Shantz Park.  There, we will be met by the Grade 7 students from St. Anne’s Catholic School and we will pass off the cross to them.  This procession will start outside Canadian Martyrs as the rest of the students will make a line for us to walk by.  We would love for YOU to be a part of that line!  Please come to Canadian Martyrs on Wednesday, November 21st to be a part of the experience.  You can see the cross as it leaves our school and be a part of the crowd wishing it well.  No need to RSVP, just join us!

We are looking forward to seeing you!

Have a great week Crusaders!

Popcorn is back at Canadian Martyrs!!

We will once again be offering popcorn for purchase on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on November 22nd. This year we are attempting to limit our sales to schoolcash online only. In the next day or so if you are registered for schoolcash online, you will be receiving a number of emails for the popcorn sales. The reason you are getting so many is because we have posted one item for each popcorn day so that the class that is delivering our popcorn has an accurate list for that day only.

If you have not yet registered for schoolcash online, do it now so you don’t miss out!

If you are having troubles registering do not hesitate to contact Deanna in our office either by phone or in person and she can walk you through it!

Progress Reports and Conferences at Canadian Martyrs!

Hello Crusaders!

Today, your child(ren) received their progress reports.  This is a report of their work so far this year.  You should be able to identify some specific areas of strength and improvement for your child(ren).  Please read through this with your child and ensure that they understand the goals that they could set for themselves.  In addition to setting some specific goals, talk to them about the steps it takes to achieve them.  This will really help at the upcoming conferences on Wednesday and Thursday.

You also received a slip of paper in each progress report that identifies and confirms the date and time for your child(ren)’s conference.  You are scheduled to meet the teacher on either Wednesday, November 7 or Thursday, November 8.  The time is also listed.  PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD(REN) ATTEND THESE CONFERENCES.  If you have any questions about these times, please contact the school.

As always, our VERY ACTIVE “Just Justice” group will be selling hot chocolate, tea, and coffee during student-parent-teacher interviews on both nights.  The cost is $2.00 per cup.  All funds raised will go to the Just Justice Group’s main fundraising focus this year: the Save the Evidence Campaign of the Woodland Cultural Centre, highlighting the impact of “Indian Residential Schools”.  The Just Justice Group thanks you for your support of our fundraiser!

We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow and Thursday!
