Water Issues in Kitchener – an update…

Hello Crusaders!

We had a great opportunity this morning to “walk a mile” in the shoes of the millions of people (many in Ontario!)  who do not have easy access to clean, drinkable water.  We were out for approximately 30 minutes before the City informed us that they had the problem fixed and we were good to go.  A very minor inconvenience for us, but a real struggle for many!

I congratulate the Canadian Martyrs staff and students for their outlook, perspective and for taking the opportunity to focus on the real issues that many of our fellow Canadians, and people worldwide face everyday.

Happy Earth Week!

Water Issues in Kitchener

Hey Crusaders!

Please see the message below from our Maintenance team at the WCDSB.  This information is correct as of 8:20am:

“The City has confirmed a water main break affecting a large area of Kitchener around the King St./Cameron area.  They hope to have it repaired in the next 30 to 40 minutes.  We will send further direction as soon as we have more information.”

We are open for business as usual!  See you soon Crusaders!

This week at Canadian Martyrs…

Good Morning Crusaders!
We hope you all had a great long weekend and were able to spend some time with family, friends, and in the great outdoors!  We were so blessed to have a great sunny day yesterday!

This week is a busy one at Canadian Martyrs, and there are a lot of great events coming up!

Here are the items to note:

  • For the next 2 weeks, we will recognize our “EARTH WEEKS” where we can all make intentional efforts to make a difference!  It may seem like our little efforts do not make a difference, but they do!
  • Now that our Grade 4’s are done their CCAT testing, it is our Grade 7’s that will show us what they know on the CAT-4 test!  Good Luck 7’s!
  • The Grade 8’s in Mr. Butter’s class are one week away from the PCAP test!  This is a national test that we were chosen for and we are so excited for our 8’s to show us what they know.
  • As always, we have our Spirit Day on Wednesday – wear your Crusader gear!
  • On Friday, we have our Umbrella Assembly when we award all of those who demonstrated intrinsic motivation this month as we look ahead to our May skill!
  • On April 30, 2019 we will celebrate our Beacon of Hope.  This year, the staff at Canadian Martyrs would like to Congratulate Myah B. from Mr. Butter’s class!  She is an excellent example of what HOPE looks like in our world.  Congratulations Myah!
  • Also on April 30, 2019, we are holding our first ever “Popcorn and Movie Night” at Canadian Martyrs.  Students and PARENTS are welcome to come to Canadian Martyrs.  Students will be in a few classrooms watching a movie and enjoying some delicious popcorn, while parents are in the gym listening to Dr. Jen Forristal from the Umbrella Project!  She is here to speak to us about the project, and some practical ways we can help our kids develop their Umbrella Skills – those skills that will help them to deal with the inevitable “storms” that will come our way.  Students MUST have a parent attend in order to attend themselves…
  • On May 1st, we begin our celebration of Mary with our “Crowning of Mary Ceremony”.  This is a long standing tradition at Canadian Martyrs and we look forward to another great celebration!

Exciting times at Canadian Martyrs!  Mark you calendars and get involved!

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!

Popcorn and Movie Night is coming quickly!

Dear Crusaders!

Check out the attached flyer for information about an exciting night at Canadian Martyrs!

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at 5:45pm, we will be screening a variety of movies in a variety of classrooms, depending on numbers, and providing them with popcorn.

While the kids are in the rooms, the parents will have an opportunity to hear Dr. Jen speak about the Umbrella Project from 6:00pm – 7:00pm.  We have been working on our Umbrella skills this entire year and we will continue to work on them next year.  You can help us out at home, and this is a great way for you to know what to do!

Please return the RSVP sheet that was sent home or call the school to give your numbers.
Students are NOT permitted to come for movies without their parents attending.

If you have any questions, please contact the school and we will be happy to help.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Have a great day Crusaders!

Fire Drill at Canadian Martyrs…

Dear Crusader Community,

I want to take a moment to thank the staff of Canadian Martyrs for their safe and speedy execution of our Fire Drill procedures.  Today at about 1:30pm, we held one of our several fire drills and the staff and students evacuated the school quickly and quietly.  Everyone was accounted for quickly and we were back to work within 10 minutes.

Please speak to your children about safe procedures when they hear the fire alarm sound, and congratulate them for a great drill today!

Way to go Crusaders!
