St. Mary’s Parent Night!

Hey Crusaders!

Is your child in Grade 8?  Did you know that there is a Parent Information Night at St. Mary’s on Thursday, November 28,2019?

This night will be your opportunity to tour the school, meet some new people that will be supporting your children next year, and learn a little more about the pathway that your children may be on.  There are other dates for additional “Pathways” information – January 14th and January 20th – but getting to know the building and the people in November is a great idea!

Good Luck Crusaders!

Hey Parents, Can you please help us?

Dear Crusaders,

We really need your help.  We need your continued cooperation in regards to parents on our school yard.  It is so important that parents who are dropping items off to their children (e.g., lunches, clothing, snow pants, etc.) are coming to the main office.  We can not have parents on our yard or in our hallways.  This is to help ensure the safety and security of all of our students.

We are more than happy to help you get items to them, but it is important that you check-in with us first.

Thanks for your continued support and cooperation Crusaders!

Wear PINK today at Canadian Martyrs!

Good morning Crusaders!
Belonging Week continues today with a focus on RESPECT.  Today we make a commitment to be respectful – like we are always – and we show that we are committed to this by wearing PINK today.  The actual colour does not make the difference, but instead the commitment that we all make to being a respectful member of our community!

See you soon Crusaders!

Belonging Week at Canadian Martyrs – November 18-22

Hey Crusaders!

November 18th to 22nd is BELONGING WEEK at Canadian Martyrs CES. This is our Board’s new name for the Ministry’s Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. Bullying is defined by the Ministry of Education as: “typically a form of repeated, persistent, and aggressive behaviour directed at an individual or individuals that is intended to cause (or should be known to cause) fear and distress and/or harm to another person’s body, feelings, self-esteem, or reputation. Bullying occurs in a context where there is a real or perceived power imbalance.”

In a school community where all students believe they belong, we can reduce bullying behaviours. Our school staff work with students on a daily basis to help them build their social skills, empathy and capacity to problem solve and resolve conflicts. We are continuing to encourage all members of our school community strive to create a positive and peaceful school setting where everyone feels like they belong. When conflict occurs, as it does in all relationships, the goal is to listen to each other, have all participants accept responsibility for their role in the conflict, and commit to doing their part to repair any harm that was done. Children learn better from this supportive teaching approach than from harsh, punitive measures.  All children deserve a chance to learn from their mistakes.

There is a theme for each day of our Belonging Week:

Monday – A Peaceful Community
Tuesday – An Inclusive Community
Wednesday – A Respectful Community
Thursday – A Community of Kindness
Friday – A Community that Builds Relationships

There will be daily prayers and classroom activities that reflect each day’s theme. On Wednesday, November 20th, we are inviting all students and staff to wear pink to show that we are committed to always being kind and respectful to each other.

Please take a moment to enjoy this short video in which Jean Vanier speaks about appreciating one another as human beings and encouraging children to create a classroom and a world where we can discover that we belong to each other: Jean Vanier

Take some time during this week to pray for Peace and Respect, using the following prayer – other Crusaders just might be praying with you at the same time!

Prayer of St. Francis
Lord make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
And where there is sadness, joy.
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive-
and it’s in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Remembrance Day at Canadian Martyrs

Dear Crusaders,

Today, the Canadian Martyrs Community paused together in a moment of silence to remember all of the women and men who fought and continue to fight for world peace.  We are so thankful and recognize that our way of life is only possible because of their continued sacrifice.

Please take a moment tonight to reflect with your family, about the sacrifice that so many Canadians have made throughout the years, and say a little prayer of Thanks.

See you tomorrow Crusaders!

Another Great Day at Canadian Martyrs!

Hey Crusaders!

Today is another great day at Canadian Martyrs!  We received another reward from our fundraiser which was a huge success!

This year we raised over $7700 to put towards some recess equipment, yard improvements and learning materials for our kids.  The “Gagaball” court is already installed!

We have already been rewarded with Gum Day, Hat Day and today, Extra Recess!

The Movie Day and Electronics time will happen in the various classes throughout this week and next.

Our lunch time rewards will take place on Wednesday of next week, when Mrs. McKinnon’s class will receive their Ice Cream Party, and on Thursday when Mr. Butter’s class will receive a BBQ in our courtyard and Mrs. Nowak’s Class will have a pizza party!

Congratulations to all of our winning classes, and thank you to all of you for your support!  What an amazing community we are a part of!

Thanks Crusaders!

Lockdown Drill at Canadian Martyrs

Hey Crusaders!

Yesterday, our school participated in a lockdown drill.  This is an important drill to practice because of it’s potential seriousness in nature.  Practicing these drills can help to alleviate some anxiety and encourage students to continue to learn about being safe and secure.

Our staff and students participated in the drill at 1:00pm and everyone was quick and quiet to complete the necessary steps.  The correct procedures were executed very smoothly by all and we are so proud of our community!  If you have any questions or concerns about these drills, or your children have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank so much for your continued cooperation!
