June News from Canadian Martyrs

An Prayer for Summer…

Creator of all, thank You for summer!
Thank You for the warmth of the sun and the increased daylight.
Thank You for the beauty I see all around me and for the opportunity to be outside and enjoy Your creation.
Thank You for the increased time I have to be with my friends and family, and for the more casual pace of the summer season.
Draw me closer to You this summer.
Teach me how I can pray no matter where I am or what I am doing.
Warm my soul with the awareness of Your presence, and light my path with Your Word and Counsel.
As I enjoy Your creation, create in me a pure heart and a hunger and a thirst for You.

June 20th is a BIG DAY!
This year, on June 20th, our local Zehrs is sponsoring a “We All Eat Breakfast Together” Event at Canadian Martyrs!  Breakfast will be provided for all students at Canadian Martyrs and we will create a long table and sit together!  What a great opportunity to share a meal with friends!

Important Information from our Learning Commons!

All School library books are to be returned by June 8th, 2018.  Please help us to ensure that your children are returning all library materials by this Friday.

We’ve had a great year in the library, with over 10,000 books checked out by Canadian Martyrs students this year alone!  We hope that the reading continues this summer at the KPL!

Although our library will be closed as of June 8th, the Kitchener Public Library is open all summer! The children’s librarian from the Kitchener Public Library will be here on June 19th and 21st to tell students about KPL’s summer reading program. Over the summer children will receive a free reading booklet, a poster, stickers, and be entered in a draw for weekly prizes. Dive in and join the club, and keep reading all summer long!

Are you moving?
To assist us with enrolment projections for September 2017, please inform the school if you are planning any changes that may result in your children not attending Canadian Martyrs School next fall.  Thanks for your continued support.

Important Bussing Information:

The website is:  Bussing routes and times can change depending on new students being added or new areas on the bus route. Please do not assume that your child’s bus information will remain the same as the previous school year.

Summer Renovations at Canadian Martyrs!!
We have very exciting news!  This summer Canadian Martyrs will be under significant construction!  The WCDSB has selected Canadian Martyrs for some significant upgrades including LED lighting throughout our building, new cupboards and counter tops in each classroom and a new heating and an air conditioning system!  That’s right!  Air Conditioning!  There will be many trades in and out of the building all summer long.  If you have any questions about the upcoming renovation, please contact the office.
Parents on the Yard…
Adults on the school yard can pose a great safety risk.  We are asking for your continued help and support by dropping your children off in the morning and letting them find their friends on the yard.  We would ask that parents then wait, if you feel you must, by the shed near the parking lot.  Also, if you have something that you need to get to your child throughout the day, please come to the office and sign in.  We can get items delivered to them.  Please do not walk onto the school yard during a recess break.  If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the main office.
Please use the Crossing Guard…
For your safety, please make sure that you and your children are crossing the street with the crossing guard at the corner of Confederation Drive and Halifax Drive.  We have been encouraging your children to do this but we need your help to be a role model.

Lunch Time Information…
If your child has permission to go off school property at lunch on any particular day, we require a note from a parent advising us of this. We will not be allowing students to call parents asking for permission to go off property prior to lunchtime.  Please make sure that any special lunch arrangements are made in advance.  Our expectation is that students will go to get their lunch, eat it and then return quickly.  Hanging out across the street from the school can pose some problems, and we would ask that your students do not do this.  Thank you for reminding them so.  Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Class Lists for September of 2018…
Many factors are considered in the creation of class lists including academic abilities and needs, social groupings and gender ratio’s.  The teachers and administration take great care to ensure that there is a balance across all classrooms.  In the past, we have received numerous requests to have students placed with a specific teacher.  Please know that we have your child’s best interests at heart and we will do everything to ensure a best fit for your child(ren).  Please do not submit requests for an individual teacher to administration or the current classroom teacher.  Thank you for your continued support and cooperation!  Canadian Martyrs Staff.

Do you want to be a part of the Canadian Martyrs Community?
We are looking for anyone who would like to be a Lunch Hour Supervisor next school year.  This is a paid position that would require an interview with Mr. Spitzig and some paid training.  Then, you would work for an hour a day over lunch with the kids in the classroom and on the yard.  If our current Lunch Hour Supervisors return next year, then you would be on our LHS Supply list and we would call you directly to cover on days when they are sick or unable to come to school.
If you would like to be a Lunch Hour Supervisor and a part of our community, please contact the office to set up an interview.  Thanks!

If you have any questions about any items listed, please contact the main office.

Keep working hard Crusaders!
