Information about Wednesday, December 4, 2019

Dear Crusaders Community,

As you may have heard, the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) has announced plans for a one-day strike on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

OSSTF does not represent any staff working in our elementary and secondary schools, therefore all Waterloo Catholic District School Board elementary and secondary schools will be open and running on their normal schedules tomorrow.

WCDSB teaching staff are represented by the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA), and negotiations with the province are still on-going. We are hopeful the two sides will reach a fair and respectful collective agreement.

However, OSSTF does represent some staff working at our St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres, and the one day strike will result in the following programs and services being CLOSED on December 4:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at all campuses.
  • Language Instruction for New Canadians (LINC) classes at all campuses.
  • Literacy Basic Skills (LBS) classes – also known as CorE classes – at all campuses.
  • Spots for Tots childcare and LINC Childminding sites at both the both the Downtown Kitchener Main Campus and the Highland Road campus.

PLEASE NOTE: All other St. Louis programs will be running on normal schedules.

Thanks Crusaders!

Canadian Martyrs Annual Turkey Lunch is back!

Dear Parents,

It is Turkey Time!  On Wednesday, December 18, 2019 we will once again enjoy our Annual Turkey Lunch for all students, staff and parish staff.  The menu will include turkey, corn, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy and buns!

The cost per plate is again $8.00 this year.  Please make your payment on SchoolCash Online.  If you have a Kindergarten student, the cost is $6.25 due to portion sizes.

The goal of our Turkey lunch is to build togetherness and share a meal with our community.  If your child chooses NOT to purchase the Turkey lunch, please send them to school with a lunch from home.  All students will join us in the gym to share in great conversation, and build community.

We are looking forward to experiencing this tradition again this year.  If you have any questions, please contact the main office.

Stay Warm Crusaders!  Happy Holiday Season!

Angel Tree Initiative is still underway at Canadian Martyrs!

Hey Crusaders!

Have you seen our Angel Tree lately?  It is absolutely amazing and humbling to see so many presents under the tree and so many angel’s on it.  If you have time, please consider donating a new, unwrapped toy to our Angel Tree, and your name will be added to an angel and hung on our tree.

If you have time, please stop by the office and check out the tree!  It is quite the sight!

Thank you for your continued generosity and support during this Christmas season!

A Great Start to Advent at Canadian Martyrs!

Dear Crusaders,

Today we began the season of Advent at Canadian Martyrs with a wonderful Advent Assembly.  At this gathering we heard readings and petitions from our Grade 6 leaders in Ms. Henriques class.  Thank you Grade 6’s!  We also heard some great music led by our very own Mr. Denomme!  Thank you for leading us in song this morning!

Our theme this morning was HOPE – the first candle of the Advent wreath.  We are hopeful this Advent season that we can prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus at Christmas.  We are working hard at Canadian Martyrs to prepare ourselves!  We are reflecting on what Hope means to each of us, and we are working hard to prepare.  We do this though our actions each and every day – taking care of each other as Jesus would want us to.

Keep working at preparing your hearts and houses for the coming of Jesus!  Take time to be with each other and to think about how you can bring HOPE to others.

The entire staff at Canadian Martyrs would like to wish each of you a very blessed Advent Season.

From the Canadian Martyrs Staff.

Grade 4 Bible Celebration is this week at Canadian Martyrs!

Hey Crusaders!

Check out this very important upcoming event at Canadian Martyrs!  We are so lucky to be able to have the team from St. Anthony Daniel Parish join us!

Dear Parents/Guardians of our Grade 4 students,

On Thursday, December 5th we are inviting parents and guests to attend our bible celebration which represents the handing on of the story of Jesus. Father Tim will be presenting our grade 4 students with their own bible and we will be having a short paraliturgy to accompany this.

The ceremony will take place in the school gym and will begin at 9:30am and it  will not take much longer than about 45 minutes. Parents and other family members are welcome to attend. Following on from the celebration we will be having a short ‘eat and greet’ in the gym for those that would like to join us for this special occasion.

We look forward to this special day as our Grade 4s continue on their Christian journey as part of our Canadian Martyrs’ community.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. U’Ren and Ms. Marczuk

St. Mary’s Parent Night!

Hey Crusaders!

Is your child in Grade 8?  Did you know that there is a Parent Information Night at St. Mary’s on Thursday, November 28,2019?

This night will be your opportunity to tour the school, meet some new people that will be supporting your children next year, and learn a little more about the pathway that your children may be on.  There are other dates for additional “Pathways” information – January 14th and January 20th – but getting to know the building and the people in November is a great idea!

Good Luck Crusaders!

Hey Parents, Can you please help us?

Dear Crusaders,

We really need your help.  We need your continued cooperation in regards to parents on our school yard.  It is so important that parents who are dropping items off to their children (e.g., lunches, clothing, snow pants, etc.) are coming to the main office.  We can not have parents on our yard or in our hallways.  This is to help ensure the safety and security of all of our students.

We are more than happy to help you get items to them, but it is important that you check-in with us first.

Thanks for your continued support and cooperation Crusaders!
