Happy New Year! The staff at Canadian Martyrs hopes that you all had a fantastic break with some time to rest, relax and celebrate with family and friends.
As we get back to school for 2019, there are some important reminders and important pieces of information that we would like you to be aware of. Happy 2019!
A New Year Prayer:
Thank you Lord, for giving me the brand new year ahead.
Help me live the way I should, as each new day I tread.
Give me gentle wisdom that I might help a friend,
Give me strength and courage, so I shoulder I might lend.
The year ahead is empty, help me fill it with good things.
Each new day filled with joy, and happiness it brings.
Attendance and Safe Arrival at Canadian Martyrs:
Attendance is such an important part of success at school. You have to be here to learn! We want our students at school everyday possible, understanding that at times we may fall ill. Please make every effort to attend school on a regular basis. If there is a day in which you are not able to attend, please make sure that you are contacting the office to let us know. The process is so much more efficient, and safety is assured more quickly when parents contact us.
Our attendance line is 519-578-7579. Please call and leave a message anytime if your child is going to be absent.

Important Information and Reminders:
Good Bye and Thank You to Mrs. Fiedler!
The Canadian Martyrs staff and students want to wish Mrs. Fiedler a huge Congratulations on her retirement! Mrs. Fiedler has been with the Canadian Martyrs community for 18 years! We are so happy for her, but we will miss her greatly!
We would also like to welcome Ms. Postma, who will be taking on Mrs. Fiedler’s role until the end of the year. Welcome!
Parents on the Yard:
We would like to remind all of our parents that in order to effectively supervise students, we need parents to stay off our yard. There is a designated waiting area for parents in the morning, off to the side of the playground and we would ask that, if you must wait, you wait there. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact the office directly. Thanks for your continued support and cooperation with this matter.
Our Kindergarten students will continue to enter the building at 9:00am to allow them to miss the “busy-ness” of the hallway at 9:10 and to give them a bit of extra time to get their snow gear off. This has been working really well so far and we appreciate your cooperation with this.
Parking and the Ring Road:
A separate letter will be coming out soon via Newswire, but we wanted to remind all parents that the parking lot is off limits to parents all day. If you are dropping your students off or picking them up, we would ask that you are parking on Halifax Drive, next to our driveway in the proper zones. If you are using the ring road for extended day drop off, please ensure that you are not parking, as you may end up blocking the school bus that needs this area. If you are dropping off using the ring road, please drive slowly, let your children out of the car and carefully pull away. Parents should not be getting out of their cars in the ring road. Respect for others in our Crusader Community is always the right thing to do! Thanks for your continued cooperation with this matter.
Popcorn is still on sale for January!
Due to increasing demand, we will have popcorn available for students for the month of January as well. It is $2.00 per bag and can be ordered online. It is a healthy snack and a great treat!
Pizza Lunch on Monday continues in 2019!
Our Monday pizza day will continue as well. Please pay online or with cash or cheque to the office. It is such a nice treat to have a hot lunch every once in a while (for parents too!)
Report Cards come home on Valentines Day!
February 14 is a day to focus on LOVE, and Report Cards! Term 1 Reports will be coming home on February 14th. Please make sure that you are reading the various comments with your children and identifying some specific strengths and next steps for your child(ren). It is so important to celebrate the many positive things that you children are doing, and focusing on how they can work towards improving. We all can benefit from goal setting and intentional work towards improvement!
The Pilgrimage Cross video is now on our Website!
Have you seen the great work that our school community did while the Pilgrimage Cross was with us? Check out the video on our website at https://cmartyrs.wcdsb.ca!
Resilience is the focus for January!
We continue to work with our UMBRELLA PROJECT at Canadian Martyrs. The focus for the month of January is building resilience. This is such an important skill to posses and to continue to work on as we get older. Please make sure that you are checking twitter for updates, that you have signed up for direct links from Dr. Jen at the Umbrella Project and that you are talking to your kids about this important venture each day! Together we can build and strengthen our Umbrella’s and help each other to “weather the storm!”
Stay Tuned to Newswire for additional updates and information! Welcome back Crusaders!
Happy 2019 Crusaders!
